Nervousness is a symptom where the heart generally beats fast due to over activity of the suprarenals.
However neither the heart beating fast or or beating slow is difficult to tolerate for a long time as these prolonged states are likely to lead to serious complications.
Here nervousness is to be differentiated from neurosis where nervousness is also a prominent symptom; which may be again of various types like anxiety neurosis, cardiac neurosis, anxiety states, panic attacks, psychoneurosis etc., where the heart may beat either fast or slow due to hypothalamic hyperactivity requiring immediate treatment.

Consult a cardiologist if your pulse rate exceeds 100 beats per minute. If the heart flutter, no pumping takes place and hence no pulse is felt on the wrist.

count how many beats in one minute. Norm is 60 to 100. Most people do not hear their heartbeat unless they have mitral valve prolapse which for most people is just a nuisance and nothing to worry about.
