Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (also known as idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis) is usually treated with beta-blockers such as propranolol and metoprolol. Calcium-channel blockers such as verapamil are an alternative.
Psoriasis is usually treated with topical corticosteroids such as alclometasone, triamcinolone, and hydrocortisone. Coal tar preparations may be alternated with corticosteroids. Salicylic acid preparations can be alternated with other treatments to decrease the amount of scale. Ultraviolet lamps and sun therapy are often useful. For very severe cases, triamcinolone and procaine injections, as well as calcipotriene injections, may be beneficial. Acitretin, tazarotene, isotretinoin, and methotrexate are oral medications with many potentially dangerous adverse affects that may be beneficial for some patients.
