This is way too high dose not matter what you are doing right now go to see you DR for this rechecking you don't have to have been doing anything wrong depends on how old you are how long it as been like this you may not be a Smoker i can not assume anything about your life style as you have not give enough details if you have not took your own Blood Pressure but some one other than a DR then i cannot pass judgement on you without the facts but i do strongly advise not to take your own Blood Pressure let the experts do that like your DR you go now you need more than one reading to be took a few times over a period of a few days as you just can't say from one reading it is dangerous if it stay's like this then it needs to be sorted that is for sure as this can lead to heart problem's your diastolic is the one the DR will be more interested in

although you systolic is not too good either hope you get sorted

Who took your blood pressure, do you know it was an accurate reading? If the cuff was too small it can cause the reading to be high so make sure you are using the right sized cuff.

Also, did you just get done exercising, smoking, are you very stressed out or in pain?? That can cause your blood pressure to shoot up really high.

Overall, yes, if 160/102 is your actual blood pressure reading, (I mean, your not in pain, your not severely stressed, you didn't just get done exercising or chain-smoking) yes, you need to be concerned. The diastolic number (the bottom number) is what is reallly concerning to me. You should definitely call your doctor and see if they can get you in, you may need a blood pressure medication or need to make some lifestyle changes to get your blood pressure under control.

High blood pressure should NEVER be left untreated, it can cause heart attack, stroke, aneurysms, kidney failure, etc.....) It really is a silent killer if left untreated, but good news is, it can be controlled fairly easily with lifestyle changes and medication if needed.

I would suggest checking your blood pressure again in the opposite arm in about 20 minutes, if it is still high, like I said, call your Dr. immediately.

If you give me more details I will be able to give you better advice. Thanks.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Actually, 150/70 is not high at all. I'd buy a blood pressure monitor so you can check your blood pressure at home. You can get one at Wal-Mart for around $30. If it consistently stays above 140/80, I'd go back to the doctor. They may put you on a mild blood pressure medicine, such as Ziac. If it ever spikes to something around, say, 180+/90+, I'd try to see a doctor fairly soon.

We never freak out over one blood pressure reading. A normal person's blood pressure can read that high for many reasons. (It may just be inaccurate, such as what happens when the cuff is too small for the individual, for example.) When a single reading shows a BP that high, it should be taken again, preferably with a manual cuff and stethoscope by someone who knows what he/she is doing.

A single high (or low) reading is not a cause for concern. What's very important is to figure out what your blood pressure "runs". If your BP really is that high consistently, then yes, you should be worried. Or better yet, instead of just worrying about it, get it treated.

Chronic high blood pressure does all kinds of awful things to your body.

If your doctor knew this was your current blood pressure, he would be having a discussion with you about lifestyle changes, diet, daily exercise, stop smoking and prescribing some blood pressure medication. You need to make an appointment with your family doctor.

Yes. You should be on Medication. My blood pressure goes that high when I have too much caffeine, or I am at the doctor's office. Either way, you should get it checked by your doctor.
